Three Steps To A More Effective HVAC System

Jessica Jimenez

You don't always need to spend a lot of money to improve the functionality of your HVAC system. Sometimes the problem is due to something small and easy to repair. Even if you don't have any HVAC experience, you can often do the work yourself, and end up increasing the efficiency of both your heating and air conditioning functions. This article explains three great ways to maintain an efficient and healthy HVAC system.

Adjust Your Registers

Perhaps the easiest and most effective way to ensure your HVAC is working properly is to adjust the registers from season to season. The fact of the matter is, most houses will heat up and cool down unevenly. Some rooms will need full airflow from the AC during the summer, while others will stay cool without it. But, if you don't have your registers adjusted accordingly, you could be wasting a lot of money. If airflow is being diverted from the rooms that need it the most, then you ultimately need to turn up your thermostat and use more electricity. This is very simple, but something that many homeowners neglect to do.

Clean the Filter Compartment

Another way to make your HVAC system more efficient is to clean out your filter compartment. Even if you regularly change your air filter, you should also clean the empty compartment. Most people don't realize how much dust and dirt can get trapped within this compartment. Filters will absorb most of the dust, but as they get dirtier, a lot of the dust just bounces off the filter and falls down into the compartment. So, when you put in a new filter, this residual dust basically makes your new filter get dirtier immediately.

Clean the Furnace Cabinet

If you want your HVAC to be an even more effective, you can clean the inside of the furnace cabinet. The furnace is a central part of the air conditioning (not just the heat). Air that is cooled by the condenser is pumped through the furnace and into the ducts. So, if the furnace is not working, your AC will never be as effective as it could be. Cleaning inside the furnace is safe and easy, as long as the system isn't running while you do it. First, open the access panel to the furnace. Then, clean the inside using a vacuum wand and damp rags. Vacuum first and suck out any loose dust. Then wipe down the sidewalls and any dusty components.

These are three easy jobs that should improve the effectiveness of your HVAC systems. Contact a company like Don's AC Service, Inc. for more information and assistance.

Everything You Should Know About Heat Pumps

Hello. My name is Josiah. I am a 44-year-old married dad of three. I work in the automotive industry and love what I do. Recently, my heating and cooling unit stopped working. I did a lot of research on what type of heating element I should install in my home. I wanted something energy efficient, yet reliable and lasting. After a lot of research, I settled on a heat pump. A heat pump is a great heating and cooling element that many people don't yet know about. I created this blog to help educate other people on heat pumps and answer questions related to it. If you need a new heating or cooling device for your home, I hope my website helps explain to you what a heat pump is and how it can be beneficial.
