What Are Extra Features You Should Look For In A New Air Conditioner?

Jessica Jimenez

If you're shopping for a new air conditioner, then you should know that not all air conditioners are created equally. Also, there is a lot more that goes into it than size, efficiency, and cost. Here are some of the features that you should look for that could save you money or improve your comfort.

Variable Speed Blower

Most air conditioners have two speeds. One is off, and the other is on. This gets your home cool, but it's not the best way to do it. A variable-speed blower lets your air conditioner optimize its performance to the weather. On a day that isn't as warm, your air conditioner can run at a slower speed to keep the temperature inside more constant instead of chilling things down then slowly letting the temperature climb back up over several hours. Slower speeds can also help on humid days when you don't need as much cooling but still need air running over your air conditioner coils to pull out the humidity. On a hot day, you can take advantage of the full power of your air conditioner's blower fan.

Temperature Zones

Most central air conditioners have a single thermostat and then cool your entire house at the same time. By using temperature zones, you can avoid fights over the thermostat and save money by not sending as much air conditioning to rooms you aren't using.

When you choose temperature zones, you still have a single air conditioner. However, instead of one thermostat you have several in different places. When your air conditioner turns on, switches and extra blowers in your ducts control where the cold air does and doesn't go so that each zone reaches its set temperature.

Advanced Thermostats

One of the most important pieces of any air conditioning system is the thermostat. Again, this can be so much more than the usual on or off switch that it usually is. At minimum, you should choose a programmable thermostat that automatically turns off your air conditioner at the times you don't need it. For even higher control, you can get a Wi-Fi thermostat that allows you to change your temperature settings from your phone even while you're away from home. If you don't want to manage your air conditioner at all, then you can even get a thermostat that automatically learns your habits and knows when to turn your air conditioner on.

Everything You Should Know About Heat Pumps

Hello. My name is Josiah. I am a 44-year-old married dad of three. I work in the automotive industry and love what I do. Recently, my heating and cooling unit stopped working. A heat pump is a great heating and cooling element that many people don't yet know about. I created this blog to help educate other people on heat pumps and answer questions related to it. If you need a new heating or cooling device for your home, I hope my website helps explain to you what a heat pump is and how it can be beneficial.
